Rain, Rain Go Away

Boy did it rain last night.  So this morning I incanted the old nursery rhyme:

Rain rain go away,
Come again another day.
Rain rain go to Baden
Little GB wants to garden.
Rain, rain, go to Spain,
Never show your face again!

And the sun came out!

And I gardened (and washed the car).

And started three sentences with a conjunction.  Sorry Adrian.  Feeling guilty is just not enough of a deterrent!

  1. It is not usual to begin a sentence with a conjunction and some consider it a blemish so to begin. The practice of good writers, and of good speakers, gives, however, no support to the objections. And, after all, if your writing is to be a well-linked whole, there must be some way or other of carrying on the thought from one sentance to the next. One might contend, therefore, that the beginning of a sentence is a quite natural place for the conjunction.

You say your life is sad? How sad is going on a conjunction mission?

  2. And here's me thinking that an 'and' (as long as not used too often) is a perfectly ok thing to begin a sentence with.

  3. And who says Adrian must be right about conjunctions? (Sorry, Adrian...)

I'm more curious about 'incant' being used as a verb. But maybe that's what made it work, who knows. Glad you got to see the sun, anyway!
